Antwerp Avant-garde

Antwerp Avant-garde
8 July, 18.30-19.30

During the early 1980s a group of fashion designers emerged from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts that established the city as the centre for radical fashion design. Trained by designer Linda Loppa, the original ‘Antwerp Six’ consist of Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck and Marina Yee.

All of them have challenged the traditional systems of the fashion world, adopting a deconstructiveist, avantgarde approach that has heavily influenced contemporary fashion.

The panel will include:

Alistair O’Neill, Fashion History at Central St Martins
Johanna Agerman, Deputy Editor, Icon Magazine
Caroline Evans, Fashion Historian and Curator

Other speakers to be confirmed.
