Utopia by Thomas More: Artist Edition 2016
Utopia by Thomas More: Artist Edition 2016 is a carefully selected piece from Somerset House Shop. This edition by Jeremy Deller and Fraser Muggeridge studio London, 2016. Published by Somerset House. Utopia 2016: A Year of Imagination and Possibility celebrates the 500th anniversary of the publication of Thomas More's Utopia . Published in Leuven in December 1516, More's Utopia offers an imaginative and playful vision of the world as it could be at a time of great change. More's Utopia is deliberately ambiguous: both 'no place' and 'good place'. He is also clear that many other visions for a better society are possible. In the book More described the language of the island Utopia and proposed an alphabet associating each Latin letter with its Utopian equivalent. 500 years later, this artist edition offers a transliteration of the English text into a new Utopian alphabet for the first time.
